Claw Castanets

’Noah sees two bright red claws and lifts them from the table, he is surprised that when he moves them they make noise. He pinches the claws to repeat the sound. He is amused, Noah likes to pinch. ‘’

STEPS
1- Lift up the claws.
2- Chose a way to hold them comfortably.
3- Pinch to make noise.

These brightly coloured claws are castanets. For those who do not know what castanets are, they are Noisemakers. When the two pieces hit each other they make a clicking sound, the amount and intensity of the pinches that the users fingers make (while pinching).

They can be held in your palm, are equipped with a finger hole and also have a string so that you don’t loose either of them while you make/play/dance along with music.

This toy is suitable for children of all ages, and can even be used as a novelty item among adults. The claw castanets provide a variety of sensory feedback, they activate the users sense of touch (the smooth feeling of the claws), sight (their bright red colour), sound (the noise they make when you interact with them), and motor flexibility because you need to pinch your fingers with the castanets in between to create the sound.

The Claw Castanets are made of: Crayola model magic, red fun foam, illustration board, 6 metal brads, 2 bottle caps, 2 black elastics, tacky glue, and red acrylic paint.

Funnily enough my inspiration was drawn from an old commercial, for this toy came from two old ‘Gil the Crab’ commercials for the Honda Element. I have included the youtube.com links for your enjoyment.
