BUILDING TEAM PROPOSAL - THE HOT CHOP

USER SCENARIO

Today I am exploring an event at OCAD called ACTIVATE! I am walking around the building enjoying all the interactive art when I find another piece to check out in room 187. The first thing I see is a reception desk just outside the door, it is being managed by a trendy looking woman. As I approach she smiles and welcomes me to, “The Hot Chop” and asks if I would like to make an appointment. I look around and see that there are a few people hanging out in seats lined up along the wall beside the desk. I ask the receptionist how long the wait will be, she responds no longer than 5 – 10 minutes. I decide to sign my name up on the wait sheet she hands me. I pick up a hairdressing magazine laying on the reception desk before sitting down in one the chairs available. I skim over the magazine pages, and five minutes later my name is called out. I enter the room, the lights are dimmer than outside in the hallway and there is music playing on low volume. I see a single barber’s chair, facing an oval shaped mirror, which is hanging above a shelf. On the shelf there is a glass container with blue Barber’s solution and a few combs. There is a blow dryer and flat iron, a few hair clips and a towel. The barber kindly asks me to take a seat. He places a plastic cape over me, a towel around the back of my neck and then asks if I have decided what kind of style I want. I reply that I would just like a trim. He starts humming to the music and pulls out an electric razor hanging from his belt. I hear him turn the razor on. With the razor buzzing away he approached one side of my head and tilts my head with his hand. I see chunks of hair fall to the ground. Surprised and horrified, I ask him to stop and I tell him that did not expect him to actually cut my hair. He calmly replies, "I ’ll be done soon−just relax!" He moves to the other side of my head, the sound of the razor follows. BUZZ, I see more hair fall to the ground. He turns the razor off, and still humming, dusts the back of my neck with a brush. He smiles and reaches for a mirror. Lifting it up to show the back of my head he asks, “How do you like it?” To my relief, it looks exactly the same.
