There is a new device that allows parents to view a video of their unborn baby. They are able to "interact" with the baby because the images are displayed on a stomach-like screen protruding from a wall. The device requires a technician to operate it, and only produces visual references of the baby, therefore; it is not easily accessed my everyone. Not to mention the fact that you need good healthcare to have access to these 'luxury' types of programs.
The design itself is very pleasing to the eye. It is minimal, and for form follows the function quite well. There is no unnecessary decoration and would classify as good design according to 'Ockham's Razor' principle. The design is efficient and there are little to no distractions that would interrupt the aesthetics or function of the design.
It seems like a very interesting development in technology at first but could lead to some potentially devastating emotions. To be honest, what would happen if the mother were to have a miscarriage? It's a fact of life, they happen. It would take a tremendous toll on the parents emotions if they felt like they already interacted and bonded with the infant before it was even born. The interactions with the baby on screen would solidify the feeling of life that resides within the baby when in fact many people don't believe the baby is 'alive' until it is born. Yes, that is up for debate, I am not arguing that. I am simply saying that this "interaction" with an unborn baby has potential to create enormous emotional distress.
